The release where the web learned to explain itself, and your things became easier to act on without opening them.

Where this release is today. 0.14.10 went live on 28 September 2026 for the web interface (app.ambientchat.ai) and for everything the server does — chat answers on the phone and the web, search results, shared links, and AI assistants you have connected. The iPhone app's own screens catch up with the next App Store update; until then the App Store version is 0.14.9. Each section below says which is which.

#What It Does

#Hover any icon on the web to see what it does (web — live now)

Rest your mouse on a round icon button — •••, the trash can, the folder icon, the chat controls — and after half a second a small label appears saying what it does. It is the same name a screen reader speaks for that button. Buttons that already say what they do in words, like Upload, don't get one.

#One tile for everything, and actions without opening

  • Web — live now. Folders, documents, items and the expiring strip share one tile size, and every tile has the same three round buttons: move to a folder, move to Trash, and ••• for Share and Rename. Rename or share something, or move a whole folder, without opening it. In List view folders sit one to a line at the top of the list.
  • iPhone — next update. Long-press any item or document for Share…, Rename, Move to Folder…, Select and Move to Trash.

#Guided tours on the web (web — live now)

The first time you open Inventory, Docs, Q&A, Me or Trash on the web, a few speech bubbles point at its real controls. Settings → App Behavior → Show me around again replays them. The phone has had its own Show me around again (Settings → Application Behavior → Getting Started) since 0.14.9; either button re-arms every tour on both.

#Tick off a list

Any checklist — one the AI wrote, or one pasted from Apple Notes or Reminders — shows real checkboxes. Tap anywhere on the row and it saves; ticked lines are struck through. You don't need to open the editor. A checklist inside an AI answer is drawn as checkboxes too, instead of [ ]. Web — live now. iPhone — next update.

#Search that finds what you meant (live now in chat, on the web and in connected AIs; the iPhone's search boxes with the next update)

  • Your words can be in any order and needn't sit together: "inventory into folders" finds "sort the inventory items in the home folder into sub folders".
  • Word endings and numbers are forgiven: "survive" finds "Surviving", "5" finds "Five".
  • More by meaning includes documents people shared with you — filed in your library or not — and documents inside folders shared with you, marked with who shared them.
  • AI assistants connected to your account — Claude, ChatGPT, Grok — find your documents by name however old they are, not only among your newest 200.

#Share where something has been — the journey report

For a tracked item, Share journey report makes a live page anyone with the link can open — no account, no app. It shows where the item went, how long it stayed in each zone, the temperature with every move marked, and how each stop is known (Tag heard here, Scanned here, Set by hand, Inferred). Reopen the link after the item moves and the move is there. Map positions are rounded to about 10 km unless you ask for exact ones.

One page can show up to 25 items, or a folder the page follows as it changes — one row per item on one shared clock. Ask chat: "make a journey report for the crates in my Demo Kit folder."

#Sharing you can't change by accident (web — live now; iPhone — next update)

  • Choosing an audience shares nothing until you press Share or Create link. "Anyone" is now Public link — the open web, not every ambientChat account.
  • Tapping someone's access or duration opens a list of choices that names the date, instead of changing on the tap. Every change offers Undo.
  • Renew on the Sharing screen only ever extends — it tops up whoever is running out and leaves anyone with longer alone. It says how many it renewed and can be undone.
  • A shared document you filed into a folder can be removed from the list on the web too.
  • Ask chat "what have I shared?" and it now includes things shared by public link and by email. (Live now everywhere.)

#Documents on the web (web — live now)

  • A document's ••• menu has Export, and Print where it applies.
  • Attach existing documents to an item several at once, scrolling through a whole folder, with what's already attached greyed out.
  • A new spreadsheet opens straight into the editor. Spreadsheet previews size each column to its text (the phone gets this with the next update).

#Folders, expiry and backups

  • "What's expiring in the garage?" gets the garage's answer, counted over the whole folder. (Live now.) On the web, Expiring counts only the folder you are in.
  • "Move everything out of every folder" takes seconds. (Live now.)
  • Leave a restore and come back — Your Data shows it running, or what it restored. (Web now; iPhone next update.) Ask chat "did my restore work?" (Live now.)
  • A restore no longer leaves an extra copy of your backup in storage, and exporting no longer contacts outside websites for the icons of pages you saved. (Live now.)

#When something fails, it says so (web — live now; iPhone — next update)

Trash, skills, chat references and question history say couldn't load — try again when a load fails, instead of looking empty. A document that can't be edited gives the same reason on phone and web, and renaming a receipt shows on both.

#How to Use It

To see what an icon does (web): rest the mouse on it for half a second.

To act on something without opening it: on the web, use the round buttons on its tile; on the iPhone (next update), long-press it.

To replay the tours: Settings → App Behavior → Show me around again (web), or Settings → Application Behavior → Getting Started → Show me around again (iPhone). Or ask in chat.

To make a journey report: open a tracked item's TRACKING card (web) and choose Share journey report, or ask chat.

To tick a list: open the document and tap the row.

#Known Limitations

  • The iPhone part isn't on the phone yet. Anything marked iPhone — next update arrives when that App Store update is approved. Until then the phone's Renew can still shorten a longer share to 30 days — use Renew on the web in the meantime.
  • Search by meaning looks at up to 200 documents shared with you each time; one shared with Everyone is searched only once you file it.
  • A journey report for a folder is made from chat for now; a button on the folder is coming.
  • A journey page shows a venue's name as you entered it — if you named a venue after its street address, that address appears on the public page. Rename the venue before sharing.
  • Ticking a shared list is one person at a time, and a list someone shared with you can't be ticked. A printed list still shows [ ].
  • A share sent by email lapses after 30 days and can't be renewed yet.
  • A few screens, groups among them, can still show "nothing here" when a load failed.
  • Voice input and Listen are on the phone only.
