The release where the app learned about zones — and where your documents learned where they live.

#What It Does

#Zones, not beacons

Until now, being "somewhere" meant being near a particular beacon. That is not how people think about places. You are in the study, not near beacon 3.

This release makes the zone the unit of place. Walk into a covered space and the app names the zone, shows that zone's picture, and lists what is actually in it. A zone is scored by its nearest beacon rather than by whichever one shouted loudest, and it survives a restore.

One beacon can now carry several exhibits. A shelf, a painting and a plaque behind one transmitter are three separate cards you can tap, instead of one lump.

If a signal cannot be identified, the app now says so honestly rather than inventing a place name. A tag attached to a moving object is treated as cargo, not as a location.

#Say where something is

"Last seen" is yours to set. Open an item, edit it, and either pick a zone or just type a place in your own words — "in the loft", "lent to Dad", "third drawer down". It sticks, and it shows the name you gave it.

Scanning something now records the zone you were actually standing in at the time.

#Documents that know where they live

  • Every document tells you which folder it is in, and one tap takes you there.
  • Folder paths are readable, and you can climb back up them a step at a time.
  • Drag files straight onto a folder to file them as you upload — and dropping a file on a folder card uploads it once, not twice.
  • Documents show how big they are, everywhere they appear.
  • A photo added to Documents is filed as a document, rather than being read as inventory.
  • File-type glyphs show the right icon instead of a question mark.

#Nothing lost while you type

Start editing a document and your text is kept locally as you go, so an interruption no longer costs you the paragraph you just wrote — and the draft is shown on the screen you actually check.

If someone else is editing the same document, you are now told, rather than silently overwriting each other.

#Ask before it spends

A long question that pulls in a large document now stops and asks first, showing what it is about to use. Say no and the answer comes back without it. Your choice is remembered for the rest of that conversation, so you are not asked again and again.

Loosely-related documents no longer get pulled into an answer just because a keyword matched.

#Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Attach a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx to a chat and ask about it directly. If the composer will not accept a file, it now says so instead of failing quietly.

#Copying part of an answer

Copying a single paragraph out of a long AI answer now works reliably. This one had been broken in the field for a long time, and it is fixed at a level that can actually be tested rather than patched again.

#Arriving somewhere

Venues you have opted into can greet you when you arrive. Opting out stays opted out — the setting follows your account rather than living on one phone — and muted venues show their names rather than internal ids.

#Streaks

Streaks now show one honest number, counted on the server. The tier and badge machinery that sat on top of it has been removed; it was reporting more confidence than the underlying number deserved.

#How to Use It

To set where something is: Inventory → open the item → Edit → Last seen. Pick a zone from the list, or type a place in your own words.

To file a document while uploading: on the web interface, drag the file onto the folder card itself rather than into the general upload area.

To find where a document lives: open it — the folder path is shown under the title, and every segment of it is tappable.

To control what a question is allowed to spend: just ask normally. When something expensive is involved you will be asked before it is used, with the cost shown.

To manage venue greetings: Settings → Venue invitations. Changes here apply to your account, not just the phone you make them on.

#Tips & Tricks

  • A free-text place beats no place. "Lent to Dad" is a perfectly good Last seen value — you do not need a beacon to record where something is.
  • One beacon, several exhibits is worth using deliberately. If you look after a space, you can cover a whole wall with one transmitter and still give each object its own card.
  • The cost prompt is a budget tool, not a nag. Saying no still gets you an answer — just one that did not read the whole document.
  • Check the folder path before you re-file. Documents you thought were loose are often already filed; the path line will tell you.

#Known Limitations

  • The web interface and the iOS app update separately. app.ambientchat.ai is often ahead. Some of the zone and venue management described here is richer on the web.
  • Zones need beacons. Free-text Last seen works anywhere, but automatic room detection needs beacons covering the space.
  • Copying part of an answer leads with tappable blocks. Dragging a selection is available on iOS as an enhancement, but the tappable blocks are the reliable path.
  • AR Scan Mode is not in this release. It remains in development and is not switched on.
